MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Marshall women’s soccer team (1-0) secured an impressive season-opening victory by defeating Morehead State 3-0 on Thursday. A flurry of goals in the second half, courtesy of Bailey Fisher, Alyssa Hardin, and Ada Clare Tempert, propelled Coach Michael Swan’s squad to a successful start.
The second half showcased the defensive prowess of sophomore Alexis Wolgemuth, who faced a relentless offensive push from Morehead State. Wolgemuth exhibited her skills by making a total of ten saves, including a crucial pair in the 60th minute, contributing significantly to the team’s clean-sheet triumph.
Fisher’s goal in the 47th minute, assisted by Abi Hugh’s precise delivery, broke the deadlock. Hardin swiftly capitalized on an errant clearance from the Morehead keeper just minutes later, showcasing her strategic awareness.
Tempert, a transfer player, solidified the victory with a well-executed right-footed strike in the 82nd minute, sealing the win for Marshall.
The team now looks ahead to its home opener against High Point on Sunday, August 20th, at Hoops Family Field in Huntington. The match is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m.
