HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University’s baseball team clinched a 2-1 win over Eastern Kentucky in 10 innings at Jack Cook Field on Tuesday, extending their perfect record in extra-inning games this season to 3-0. The win improves the Herd’s overall record to 14-15.
Head Coach Greg Beals praised his team’s resilience. “It’s always good to get a win,” Beals said. “We really pitched the ball well tonight, and these midweek games are a good opportunity for us to stay sharp and keep preparing for the weekend.”
The game, tied 1-1 heading into the 10th, saw Cam Harthan spark the offense with a leadoff single. Eddie Leon, who was already deep in the hole at 0-2, fouled off a few pitches before ripping a double down the left-field line, sending Harthan home for the walk-off victory.
Marshall had tied the game earlier in the seventh, when Ethan Murdoch’s single plated Maika Niu. Murdoch finished the night with two hits, providing a critical offensive spark.
Pitching dominated the contest, as Marshall used eight pitchers who combined to limit EKU to just three hits and strike out 14. Tim Baird earned the win, his third of the season, after a scoreless 10th inning with two strikeouts.
Luke Proehl’s strikeout-heavy third inning set the tone early, and Blaine Albright kept the pressure on with 1.1 flawless innings. In the eighth and ninth, Charlie Krebs struck out four Colonels, including a clutch sequence to strand two EKU runners in the ninth.
Peyton Jackson, Kenyon Collins, and Alex McKay each added multiple strikeouts, further showcasing Marshall’s depth on the mound.
Marshall now shifts focus to its weekend series against No. 13 Southern Miss. The Herd will take the field Friday at 6 p.m. at Jack Cook Field, looking to build momentum heading into the series.
