Marshall Baseball Falls 7-0 at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Marshall University’s baseball team (12-13) dropped a 7-0 decision to West Virginia (20-3) on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers scored six of their seven runs in the first three innings, including a four-run third. Marshall’s bullpen performed well, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings. Alex McKay tossed 2.1 scoreless frames, and both Peyton Jackson and Kenyon Collins followed with scoreless innings.

Jackson Halter and Nolan Wilson reached base twice, each with a single and a walk. Eddie Leon and Cam Harthan also had hits.

“We got behind early and again we assisted their offense with free bases,” said Herd head coach Greg Beals. “I thought we pitched the ball well out of the bullpen. Offensively, we were unable to get anything going, give their pitching credit. They are a very good team, and we need to play cleaner baseball and get a few big hits to beat them.”

Marshall will next head to Troy for a three-game series beginning Friday.
