HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Rest is over for the Marshall football team as spring drills resume this week following a week-long break for the university’s Spring Break period.
The Thundering Herd has workouts scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
First-year head coach Tony Gibson and his staff are hopeful that the tempo and execution from earlier practices weren’t lost during the break.
Middle Tennessee transfer defensive back Marvae Myers-Glover says players on his side of the ball entered the break with plenty of momentum.
“It’s great seeing guys’ tendencies and how aggressive we can be on defense,” Myers-Glover said. “I believe we’re getting after it. As a defensive back, I want to see a defensive line that stops the run and linebackers that run to the ball, and these guys have been showcasing what I thought this defense could be.”
Myers-Glover had a productive 2024 season with the Blue Raiders before transferring to Marshall, playing in all 12 games and recording 41 tackles, an interception against Kennesaw State, and four pass break-ups.
He had a season-high six tackles in games against Western Kentucky and Louisiana Tech.
Myers-Glover also brings a unique perspective on Marshall’s developing offense, having faced new offensive coordinator Rod Smith last fall when Smith ran Jacksonville State’s offense. Jacksonville State defeated MTSU 42-20 in 2024.
Myers-Glover says Herd fans who enjoy high-powered offense will like what Smith brings to the field this fall, especially with a high-tempo attack and the utilization of all skilled players.
“You’ll see a lot of up-tempo run-pass options,” Myers-Glover said. “Plus, the quarterback is going to run, the tight end will be effective, and we’ve got speedy outside receivers.”
Spring drills will conclude with the Green-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
